Wine Spectator honors

Twelve West Virginia restaurants were listed in the annual “Wine Spectator” restaurant awards, Gazette wine blogger John Brown reports.

Only 2,880 restaurants across world have received the “Award of Excellence,” including nine restaurants in West Virginia. The Bavarian Inn in Shepherdstown, The Greenbrier’s Main Dining Room and its Prime 44 West received “Best of Awards of Excellence.” Only 788 restaurants in the world achieved that distinction.

The state restaurants receiving “Awards of Excellence” are: Bridge Road Bistro and The Chop House, both in Charleston; Ember in Snowshoe Mountain Resort; The Glasshouse Grille and Sargasso, both in Morgantown; La Bonne Vie at Mountaineer Racetrack in Chester; Provence Market Cafe in Bridgeport; Savannah’s in Huntington; and Spats in Parkersburg’s Blennerhassett Hotel.

According to the magazine, “Wine Spectator’s restaurant wine list awards program recognizes restaurants whose wine lists offer interesting selections, are appropriate to the cuisine and appeal to a wide range of wine lovers.

“To qualify for an award, the list must present complete, accurate wine information. It must include vintages and appellations for all selections, including wines by the glass …” The three categories of awards are: “Awards of Excellence;” “Best of Awards of Excellence;” and the “Grand Award.”

Trinity’s Table feeds record number

More than 180 hungry people received a free dinner July 29 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1600 Kanawha Blvd. E. That’s a record for Trinity’s Table, a group of volunteers who gather to feed adults and children in need of a meal every Sunday evening when other soup kitchens are closed.

The 16 to 17 volunteers busily simmered goulash, shredded cabbage for coleslaw, sliced fresh peaches and tomatoes and set up the dining hall to serve a record number of diners. They clean up afterward.

Organizers Ed and Eunice Burch procure food from Mountaineer Food Bank, as well as buying meat at greatly reduced prices from T&M; Meats in Cross Lanes. Libby Chatfield, owner of Charleston Bread, donates bread not sold on Saturday to the Sunday suppers at Trinity’s Table.

For information on donating to or volunteering at Trinity’s Table, call 304-342-5212.

Checking your statements against

September 4th, 2010

Checking your statements against all your purchases each month is imperative.

Paying too much

Many people are too lazy to shop around or to question the fees that they pay each month on their accounts. If you look at the fees you pay you might find that you are paying far too much. If this is the case then it is time to shop around for a better deal, because you could save yourself a lot of money each year just by not paying expensive banking fees.

Leaving paper around

When you look at your bank statement or open bank related information, make sure that you don’t leave it lying around. If you carelessly discard information relating to your account then you are an easy target for identity thieves and fraudsters. Make sure that you keep all bank related information in a safe place, and shred any documents that you are going to throw away.

Using ATMs without care

When using an ATM, make sure that you take precautions. Do not write down your PIN number anywhere near your card, and make sure that you shield your number when you type it in.

However with the popularity of Green Tea

September 4th, 2010

However with the popularity of Green Tea soaring worldwide it now travels perhaps many thousands of miles from the harvest site before it reaches the customer. So freshness becomes a problem

When transporting Green Tea on long journeys most companies, but not all, seal the tea in packages filled with a nitrogen gas, which replaces oxygen and prevents the Green Tea from oxidisation.

When sold in packages the Green Tea should be sealed in a bag from which the oxygen has been removed. The contents of the bag should then be used within two months so as to have the Green Tea at its freshest.

There is much difference between a Green Tea which has been properly packaged and a Green Tea which has been exposed to air for much of its life.

Sometimes you take a risk in the purchase of your favourite flavour of Green Tea, in that some degradation has happened prior to your purchase due to the exposure to oxygen.

The actresses would coyly go behind

September 4th, 2010

The actresses would coyly go behind them to change, draping the garments over the top of the screen as they did so. Now they are used for many purposes other than changing.

People, who live in studio or loft type apartments, use them to separate areas, such as bedrooms and kitchens. Others use them the same way the old actresses did, as a screen to change behind. They can be used to block your neighbors view into your window or offer shade from the sun. They can also be used to create airs of intimacy by placing them behind a sofa to block off a living area by the fireplace. They can be used to create hallways or even whole rooms.

If you struggle with accuracy,

September 4th, 2010

If you struggle with accuracy, go with a heavier shaft at a shorter length for control. Otherwise, give one a whirl and see if you don?t pick up a few extra yards.

Now, here?s another shaft type better players seem to avoid.

.350 tip driver shafts ? only for mid to high handicappers?

Have you ever wondered what the differences are between the drivers tour pros use, as opposed to what you usually play?

Aside from the fact that tour vans customize clubs for pros under contract, there is

one

thing many manufacturers do that separates the ?consumer? product from the ?tour preferred? kind.

If you check out a lot of stock, off-the-rack drivers, and TaylorMade is a good example of this, you?ll notice that they use .350 tip shafts instead of the smaller .335 tip shafts.

Look carefully at their different driver models, and you?ll discover that their ?Tour Issue?, or ?Tour Preferred? drivers, are designed to be used with .335 tip shafts.

A lot of better players turn their noses up at .350 tip shafts and won?t play them.

Not wanting to face

September 4th, 2010

Not wanting to face the reality of being a mortal, he avoided facing the issue of death which always crops up whenever he thought of writing a will.

The successful business man, by not writing a will has subjected his surviving family to a complicated tangle of legal administration which is unfair and hurtful. The lack of a will has increased the cost and payment of taxes.

Let us look into a positive aspect of the life. A couple return from the hospital carrying their beautiful new born baby. They plan to spend the first days at home quietly marveling the baby. But as the times flies, the days blurred into nights in a pattern of naps and midnight feeding. Reading about the fatal accidents, the parents decide to write a will realizing how important it is to take precautions for the children?s future care in case of any such untoward accidents. For more information visit www.onlinelawyerresource.info

Avoiding family disputes, revealing important information, minimizing possible legal issues, and minimizing taxes are some of the issues emphasizing the importance of writing a will.

Being a legally binding document, a will can prevent gold digging relatives not liked by yourself to lay claims on things which you would like to bequest to relatives preferred by you.

Beneficiaries should get specific instruction in the will, revealing and allocating sensitive information pertaining to offshore bank accounts and passwords to business accounts.

In the absence of a will with suitable instructions about property and assets, provincial law will determine what happens to your assets regardless of your wishes.
